A Grade 1 Euro pallet, also known as a Grade A pallet, is a high-quality pallet that generally does not require any repairs. These pallets are at the top of the quality spectrum, with some being designated as AAA or “club grade” pallets, which are in excellent condition, appearing brand new, and are even suitable for display on a retail floor. The specifications for a EUR/EPAL pallet, which is the standard designation for a Euro pallet (EPAL 1), include dimensions of 800 mm × 1,200 mm × 144 mm. These pallets are four-way entry pallets made of wood, nailed with 78 special nails in a specific pattern, and weigh approximately 25 kg. The EUR/EPAL pallets have a substantial presence in the market with around 450-500 million in circulation. In the UK, standard Grade 1 pallets are capable of holding up to approximately 1 tonne in weight. They are characterized by having big blocks and narrower gaps between the top boards, which often run the short way (1000mm), although sometimes 1200mm top boards are used if the timber and blocks are sufficiently robust. Further technical specifications for the EPAL EURO pallet (EPAL 1) indicate that it is constructed with 11 boards, 78 nails, and 9 blocks, with a safe working load of 1,500 kg and a maximum additional load capacity of 4,000 kg when stacking. These pallets are produced in accordance with EPAL technical regulations, ensuring a consistent and reliable quality. Stamped Grade 1 Euro pallets are distinguished by their fresh appearance, making them look as if they are straight off the production line, which contrasts with Grade 2 Euro pallets that might be darker due to use or exposure.
